Orléans Métropole verlengd contract met Keolis voor 6 jaar extra

On Thursday 17 October, the Orléans Métropole council renewed its trust in Keolis, awarding the company a new six-year contract for the operation and maintenance of its public transport network, TAO. This contract, worth a cumulative 493 million euros, covers all modes of transport in the greater city region, including trams, buses, bicycles, and on-demand transport (ODT), along with park-and-ride facilities and “VéloPark” (bicycle parking facilities). The contract will take effect on 1 January 2025, covering 22 municipalities and providing services to nearly 300,000 residents.

Ever since it began operating in Orléans in 2012, Keolis has successfully supported the authority’s ambition to enhance local mobility through its expertise and the quality of services provided to passengers. With a constant focus on innovation, Keolis expanded on-demand transport to the entire metropolitan area in January 2022, helping the TAO network achieve record ridership, particularly among younger passengers who have embraced this system more than others.

Recently, Keolis also introduced an open payment system and fully implemented the use of HVO biofuel. Under this new contract, the company will offer 24/7 transport services, ensuring that 100% of the city region’s residents have access to a TAO service within 500 metres of their home.

Keolis is committed to providing even more sustainable, innovative, and inclusive mobility services that meet the needs of citizens. This new contract will see the introduction of several new features, including:

• The launch of the RésaNuit service to guarantee convenient and safe nighttime travel.
• The creation of a direct bus connection via the A10, improving access to the Pôle 45 business park.
• The merging of the TAO apps to simplify the user experience with a single platform.
• The deployment of 750 free-floating bikes and/or scooters to encourage soft mobility.
• The organisation of exploratory walks with women ambassadors to improve safety on public transport.
• A pilot programme for bike taxis in the city centre for short local journeys.

This enhanced service offering aims to increase annual ridership to 44 million trips by 2030, with a network covering 14 million kilometres operated by Keolis.
